Welcome to Sol Oculto (Hidden Sun), a new fiction series published through Wanton Sun.
Through Sol Oculto, we will publish premiere English translations of works by dynamic Latin American writers.
We aim to bring Spanish-language weird fiction/SF to a wider audience and play our part in breaking down the insular nature of mainstream science fiction and speculation fiction scenes.
The Latin connection has been a part of us since inception. Originally, Wanton Sun was formed by Simon Sellars to publish the translated works of Argentinian maestro Andrés Vaccari, who had been writing in Spanish, his mother tongue, for some years. In 2023, Vaccari returned to his former home base of Australia to live—and also returned to writing in English. We saw an opportunity, and here we are.
Our first tranche of books under Sol Oculto include:
- Imitations (2025) by Ramiro Sanchiz (Uruguay; English translation by Andrés Vaccari; first published in Spanish as Las imitaciones 2019)
- The Worm (2025/2026) by Luis Carlos Barragán (Colombia; English translation by Andrés Vaccari; first published in Spanish as El Gusano 2024)
- Suicided (2026) by Andrés Vaccari (Argentina; English translation by the author; first published in Spanish as Suicidados 2024)
